- The Ozark Mountains are simply beautiful, with twisting mountain roads, an endless choice of viewpoints, and no lack of small towns and roadside eateries. A great route to choose starts north of the National Forest. Just follow Highway 21 southwards, through the heart of the mountains, and round things off in Eureka Springs.
- Less well known than the Ozarks, but just as scenic, Ouachita is a joy to traverse by road. A good route would start off at Mena, where you can take Route 71. The road soars above Arkansas at Rich Mountain, passing Cedar Lake Campground - where you can hop on a horse to follow local trails.
- Moving into the lowlands, Interstate 530 is designated a "State Scenic Byway" for a good reason. Passing through beauty spots like Bayou Bartholemew, it also runs past attractions like the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff, as well as famed fishing spots like Seven Devils Lake near McGehee. Start in Little Rock and just head south.
- In eastern Arkansas, the scenery is dominated by rivers, especially the Mississippi, and you can follow the river pretty closely via a network of highways and side roads. Starting at Blytheville, head south to Eudora, taking in Native American heritage at Hampson, and the Delta Blues Museum in Helena.
